Holy land in
Jordan and Israel
Journey to
sites that blessed with
the rich spiritual heritage of the history of salvation as
recorded in the Bible. Abraham, Moses, Naomi and Ruth, Elijah,
John the Baptist, Jesus Christ and Paul. They all performed
pivotal elements of their ordained mission in the ancient
landscape east of the Jordan. This is why increasing numbers of
religious pilgrims today begin their own journey of faith in
Jordan. For in so doing they can retrace the entire saga of
God’s revelation to mankind and the development of the Abrahamic
faiths.
1st day:
Airport meets and assists – Transfer to Amman – Hotel o/n.
Gadara: site of Jesus’s miracle
of the Gadarene swine. Pella: early Christians found refuge here
from turmoil and roman conquest in Jerusalem after 70 AD.
Perhaps the site of Penuel, where Jacob wrestled with the angel
all night. Zaphone: Perhaps Jephthah’s hometown and/or burial
place. Jerash: Decapolis town; in the Byanting era it annually
celebrated the miracle of turning water into wine, Back to Amman
and o/n in Amman.
3th day:
After breakfast buffet in Amman/ Hesban/Madaba/ Mt. Nebo/
Bethany.
Hesban: capital of the
Amortie King Sihon. Madaba: an Amortie and Moabite town that was
later a major center for Byazantine mosaic art. Mt.
Nebo: Pisgah: mountain from where Moses saw the land of Canaan
befor dying, and from where the folk prophet Bala’am was asked
by the Moabite king Balak to curse the Israelites camped below
in the Jordan Valley. Bethany Beyond the Jordan/ Tell Mar Elias/
Bethabara/ Beth-hoglah / Beth-barah/ Beth –araba : where Josha,
Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan river, Elijah was taken up
to heaven, John the Baptis preached and baptized, and Jesus was
baptized and started his public ministry. – Amman –o/n.
4th day
–Amman – King Hussein Bridge- Nazareth-Upper Galilee and Golan
Heights
After breakfast travel down to King Hussein
Bridge Israeli representatives will me you and transfer to
Nazareth and visit the Church of the Annunciation & Mary’s Well.
Continue through the Upper Galilee and ascend the Golan
Heights. Visit the former Syrian fortifications, Birkat Ram, the
Druze villages. Via Banias, source of the Jordan River, drive to
the Kibbutz hotel for overnight.
5th day
- Tiberias-Beth Shean-Tel Aviv
Drive along
the shores of the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum, visit the ruins
of the ancient synagogue, then Mt’ of Beatitudes and drive
through the city of Tiberias. Continue to Beth Shean, visit the
city & the excavations and
through the Sharon Valley drive south to
Tel Aviv-Jaffa for a short city tour and
overnight.
6th day
Tel Aviv - Beersheva - Arad - Massada – Jerusalem
Leave Tel Aviv - via Ashdod - Ashkelon - Beersheba.
A short visit
to the Negev capital. Continue via Arad to Massada. Ascend by
cable car to the fortress, which was the last stronghold of the
Jewish Zealots in their war against the Romans. Visit the
excavations, Herod’s palaces, the synagogue, bathhouse, etc.
Enjoy the breathtaking view of the Roman camps and the Dead
Sea. Descend for a possible “float” in the in the salty water of
the world’s lowest place. Via Ein Gedi & Kalya proceed to
Jerusalem
for overnight.
7th day
- Jerusalem
sightseeing of
the new city
Drive to Mt’ Scopus for a panoramic view of Jerusalem. On to the
Garden of Gethsemane and Church of the Agony. Drive to Mt’ Zion
for a visit to the tomb of King David, the Room of the Last
Supper and Dormition Abbey. Sightseeing in the new city
including the Israel Museum’s Shrine of the Book with the famous
Dead Sea scrolls, new Supreme Court bldg. Mt’ Herzl and Yad
Vashem (the memorial to the six million Jews who were killed in
the Holocaust). Then visit the model of the Herodian city of
Jerusalem
dating back to the time of the Second Temple. Afternoon visit of
the Hadassah medical center & the synagogue with Marc
Chagall stained glass windows. Then via Ein Karem (the birth
place of John the Baptist), return to Hotel.
8th
day - Jerusalem -
(Old City) – Bethlehem*
Walk through
one of the Gates to the walled Old City: the renewed Jewish
Quarter; the Western Wall, the Temple area; the colorful
bazaars; Via Dolorosa, and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
Continue to
Bethlehem* to visit Rachel’s Tomb and the Church
of the Nativity and return king Hussein bridge – dinner and
overnight in Amman
9th day
: after breakfast from Amman/ Dibon /
Sodom and Gomorrah/ Kir-Moab/ Petra. O/N.
Dibon
: capital of the Moabite king Mesha. Sodom and Gomorrah: early
Bronze Age towns with massive fire destruction. Kir-Moab: once a
capital of Moab where king Mesha offered to sacrifice his eldest
son and stopped an attack by Judah, Israel and Edom.
Petra (Wadi
Mousa): Joktheel: the capital of the Nabateans: a place where
Moses struck the rock and brought forth water, Wadi Mousa means
“valley of Moses”
in Arabic. O/N in Petra
10th day : Half
day in Petra/ Sela/ Bozrah/Amman
Sela : the rock from which
King amaziah hurled 10.000 Edomites of their death, Bozrah : a
capital of Edom and according to Isaiah, the place from which
the Messiah would come. Back to Amman
and O/N.
11th
day: Buffet Breakfast – Airport – Departure.
