On arrival into Amman we transfer 3hrs to the south of the country along the desert highway. Time permitting we have dinner before getting some sleep.

DAY 2        LITTLE PETRA    6HRS RIDING

Early morning we meet our trusty steeds who will carry us over the next 4 days. Wasting no time we start our ride to the sand stone-age village of little Petra. A classical temple stands guard outside the miniature siq, which would appear to have been an important suburb of the city of Petra. Situated at the point where several ancient caravan routes meet, it links Wadi Araba with Gaza, Egypt and the Mediterranean coast. We cross the amazing cliffs of Ba’aja to reach Shkaret Msai’ed and Ras Namala, from where the views of the surrounding mountains and the desert below are outstanding. It is here that we spend our first night in Bedouin tents.

DAY 3        WADI ARABA    6HRS RIDING

Today we ride across basalt mountains with great views of Wadi Araba ahead. We approach the Wadi Arabah desert whilst being told of the history of this area from ancient Biblical times. We eventually reach a village where a Bedouin family will be waiting to welcome us at their tents. Over a traditional Bedouin meal with the tribe, we hear more stories and history, before a good nights sleep.

DAY 4        WADI GHUWIER           5HRS RIDING

After breakfast we ride to what were once the biggest copper mines in the world. Confident on our horses now we enter Wadi Ghuwier, a small river in the canyon and ride through a spectacular red sandstone siq whose lower reaches are adorned with hanging gardens. We end our day at an Eco-lodge where we have dinner and sleep well.
